A recent study conducted by a group of physicians from the German Physiological Society reveals the reason women feel cold faster than men.
Ralf Brandis, a member of the Board of Directors of the German Physiological Society, explains that this is related to the fact that women generally have a lower muscle mass compared to men, which leads to a lower metabolism and heat production.
According to the published study, women better maintain heat within their bodies compared to men. The body attempts to preserve heat by keeping blood flow restricted in the upper parts of the body, such as hands, feet, nose, and lips first.
This has the aim of keeping heat close to vital organs, but also indicates that women’s skin turns pale faster, which can be noticed by pale hands and blue lips.
To maintain heat, women are advised to warm their extremities by wearing socks and mittens, as well as to keep warm inside their bodies by consuming hot drinks and food.
