According to estimates by the German Robert Koch Institute for disease control, about half of the population in Germany will develop cancer during their lifetime. In 2023, approximately 500,000 new cancer cases were diagnosed in Germany. Among the 517,800 cancer cases, about 276,400 were in men and about 241,400 in women. In 2023, Germany recorded approximately 229,000 cancer deaths, according to death statistics, with about 123,000 among men and about 106,000 among women. The figures are based on the 'Cancer in Germany' report published by the German Cancer Registry and the Cancer Registry Data Center at the Robert Koch Institute last December. On the occasion of World Cancer Day on February 4th, the institute presents the latest results and developments.
