Train driver prevents collision with school bus in Germany

On Tuesday morning in Bunitz, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, a dangerous situation occurred. A double-decker school bus carrying 30 pupils became stuck on a railway crossing due to snow. A driver of an 'Eriks' train managed to prevent a collision by applying emergency braking. According to a police spokesperson, the children reacted quickly by turning on the flashlights on their mobile phones, which allowed the train driver to see the danger and stop the train about 20 meters from the crossing. No one was injured. An 'Eriks' spokesperson explained that emergency braking involves spraying fine quartz sand between the rails and wheels to prevent slipping and speed up the stop. Train traffic was temporarily halted. 'Eriks' provided replacement bus services on the affected line. A company spokesperson also said the bus was removed from the crossing for cleaning ice and snow.
