According to the warning, published by the health fund in Germany, the use of pollen for the growth of resin-containing plants poses a risk to the health of the eyes due to their hormonal influence. This fund highlighted that the most commonly spread adverse effects of pollen in the field of ophthalmology include the following: redness and irritation of the eyes, itching and burning sensations, dryness of the eyes or excessive tearing, the presence of floaters in the eyes and headache, skin rashes and darkening of the skin around the eyes, redness and swelling of the eyelids, allergic conjunctivitis or eyelid dermatitis, increased sensitivity to light, loss of resin particles and hairs. Pollens can also lead to serious consequences, such as inflammation or damage to the retina, the appearance of rainbow parallels and color changes of the rainbow, blood vessels in the retina, reduced vision and impaired visual acuity.

The fund also noted that pollens are present in certain eye drops that require a doctor's prescription, and it is stressed that some of the preparations containing them can negatively affect women's fertility, and their use is also not recommended during pregnancy.
