German Maria Yoakel celebrated her 100th birthday a few days ago, just one month after her husband Ludwig Yoakel also turned 100. The couple, who are from the eastern German state of Hesse, have been together for 73 years. They attended kindergarten and school together, according to their daughter Petra Hartung. Hartung explained that the secret to a long life is movement. 'In the past, after retiring, they used to walk for two hours a day in the forest at a brisk pace,' she said, adding that her father still walks for an hour every day to this day.
