Middle East Crisis Costs Hapag-Lloyd $40-50M Weekly

Hapag-Lloyd CEO Rolf Habben Jansen said on Thursday that the crisis in the Middle East is causing the company additional costs of between $40 and $50 million per week, describing them as 'costs that cannot be borne for a long time.' In online comments to journalists, he added that Hapag-Lloyd is facing a 'major challenge' as seven of its ships with crews of 150 people are still stranded in the Gulf region. Jansen confirmed that the ship crews are being supplied with food and water, and that efforts are ongoing to secure the return of the ships. Despite the challenges, Hapag-Lloyd's forecasts for 2026 have not changed, as the company confirmed its full-year forecast, and Jansen expressed confidence in offsetting the additional costs.
