New cars registered in Germany last year showed a significant reduction in carbon emissions. Market leaders such as Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes achieved impressive results in reducing harmful emissions.


German Cars Cut CO2 Emissions

New cars registered in Germany last year emitted significantly less carbon compared to 2024. The German Federal Office for Transport announced that the nominal average of emissions from new vehicles decreased by 11.7% to 105.8 grams per kilometer. Volkswagen, the market leader in Germany, managed to reduce its average emissions by 14.5% to 109 grams per kilometer. The reduction rate for Mercedes was 2.6% to 118.6 grams per kilometer, while BMW came in third with an 11.3% decrease to 105 grams per kilometer, which is close to the market average. Volkswagen-owned companies, Skoda, Audi, and Seat, which rank fourth to sixth in new car registrations, also achieved emission reductions of 15.8%, 14.5%, and 18.7% respectively.
