Caribbean tourism leaders, participating in ITB Berlin 2026, called on the international community for a faster and more funded response to climate change. At the event, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the CTO and The Travel Foundation, aimed at fostering a sustainable, community-centered, and regenerative tourism model. Dona Regis-Prosper, CTO's Secretary-General, described the region's experience with extreme weather events as relentless, urging global organizations to move from theoretical frameworks to practical adaptation. Narendra Ramgulam, CTO's Director of Sustainable Tourism, emphasized that the degradation of reefs and beach erosion are already negatively impacting the visitor experience, with the main challenge being the difficulty of turning climate priorities into bankable projects. Sampson stated that the Caribbean's future competitiveness is linked to its capacity for innovation and adaptation to increasing risks.
