The German publication Der Spiegel published an article stating that the social network Facebook not only supported but also exploited copyright-protected content for its own gain. The article points out that Facebook actively participated in the dissemination of content protected by copyright, including videos with songs or films. According to the publication, Facebook launched partnership programs with media companies, offering them the opportunity to upload their materials to the platform. Nonetheless, it turned out that in essence the social network used content without the rights holders' permission and also spread it without due compensation. The publication claims that in this way, Facebook earned billions of dollars. One of the quotes referenced in the article is from a copyright manager who stated that Facebook was not interested in whether the uploaded content violated copyright, since this led to an increase in the number of users and, consequently, growth in revenue.
