Recently published research showed that about 90% of Germans believe that foreign states are trying to interfere in upcoming elections in Germany. This figure rose from 70% in 2018, indicating a growing awareness of foreign influence on the country’s internal affairs.
Among Germans, there is a general distrust towards foreign interference in the politics of the country. As noted in the report conducted during the study, the highest level of distrust is directed towards Russia and the USA. Most respondents also expressed concerns about the potentially harmful influence of China on German elections.
However, according to this research, only 13% of respondents claim that information coming from other countries can be considered objective. The remaining mostly skeptical respondents tend to trust independent internet sources and media in general.
Representatives of opposition political parties have already commented on the results of the study. They call for increased vigilance among Germans regarding foreign attempts to influence the outcomes of upcoming elections, as well as careful verification of information from various sources.
