Understanding Fever and Its Measurement

German doctors from the Health Knowledge Foundation explain that fever begins at 38°C and can indicate various health issues. Proper measurement techniques and care recommendations are provided for managing fever effectively.

Understanding Fever and Its Measurement

Current information on body temperature: starting from 38°C, it can be said that there is a mild fever, but if the thermometer shows 39°C, it is already considered a strong fever. The fever can be caused by various reasons, starting from a cold and ending with serious viral or bacterial infections.

There are several ways to measure body temperature. For example, now you can use an infrared thermometer for measuring temperature on the forehead or in the ear. When measuring orally, it is necessary to place the tip of the thermometer under the tongue for five minutes, tightly closing it with lips. When measuring under the armpit, you should press it to the body and wait for 8 to 10 minutes.

When measuring temperature under the arm or orally, it is recommended to add approximately 0.5°C to get a more accurate result. To prevent hypothermia, it is necessary to provide the organism with a complete rest and drink plenty of fluids to compensate for the loss during sweating, which often accompanies fever.

At high temperatures, it is recommended to take antipyretic medications, such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, and aspirin; they will help alleviate symptoms, but do not reduce the duration of the infection. If the fever continues to rise or exceeds the mark of 39°C, it is necessary to consult a doctor, as this may indicate the development of complications.
