Medical experts from the Federal Center for Nutrition in Germany underline the importance of iodine for health. Iodine is necessary for the production of hormones, responsible for the regulation of energy, body temperature, immunity, and brain activity. Insufficient iodine intake may lead to a decrease in physical and mental productivity, while in the long term - to an increase in iodine deficiency. Insufficient iodine during pregnancy may affect the cognitive abilities of the child.
Since the organism cannot independently produce iodine, it is essential to obtain it from food. Sources of iodine include seafood (fish, herring), eggs, and dairy products. It is also possible to use iodized salt, while it is important not to exceed the daily norm of 6 grams, to avoid the risk of increased arterial pressure. In case of severe iodine deficiency, it may be necessary to refer to dietary supplements prescribed by a doctor.
