On International Children's Book Day, which is celebrated on April 2nd, the German Reading Foundation (Stiftung Lesen) advised parents and other adults on three basic principles to encourage reading aloud to children. Start early, not late. Read for a short time rather than not reading at all. And most importantly, enjoy it together. According to the foundation's executive director, Sabine Ollmann, she added: 'There is no one right way, as every person reads differently, and every child listens differently.' Ollmann also confirmed that 'reading aloud creates closeness, promotes language development, fosters imagination and concentration, and encourages independent reading.'
