The German Cancer Research Center confirmed that smoking is the main cause of lung cancer, as well as inhaling carcinogenic substances such as asbestos, radon, and arsenic. The center added that the symptoms of lung cancer include a persistent cough, sometimes accompanied by bloody phlegm, shortness of breath, chest pain, constant hoarseness, and unexplained weight loss. The earlier the disease is detected, the greater the chances of recovery and survival. The examination is performed using low-dose computed tomography, which allows tumors to be seen even in their early stages. In most cases, early stages are treated surgically, followed by radiation therapy or drug therapy (chemotherapy/immunotherapy). To avoid lung cancer, one should quit smoking and avoid inhaling carcinogenic substances.
