Four Golden Rules for Heart Health

German pharmacists outline four key steps to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease: weight management, a healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding harmful habits.

Four Golden Rules for Heart Health

The website 'apotheker.de', the official portal for German pharmacists, reports that the risk of serious cardiovascular diseases, including heart attack, stroke, angina pectoris, and coronary artery disease requiring surgical intervention (coronary artery bypass grafting), can be reduced. Experts on the site explain that heart disease can be prevented by following a healthy lifestyle based on four golden rules: maintaining a healthy weight (BMI less than 25 kg/m²); a healthy and balanced diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, and whole-grain products due to their high content of beneficial dietary fiber, and a preference for healthy fats like olive oil, while also reducing sugar and fat intake and avoiding fast food and ready-made meals; getting enough exercise—150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous exercise per week; quitting smoking and alcohol.
