Poultry Farmers in Germany Call for Enhanced Bird Flu Protection

They are advocating for a mandatory order to keep all poultry indoors to prevent the virus's transmission, protect animal health, and mitigate significant economic losses.

Poultry Farmers in Germany Call for Enhanced Bird Flu Protection

In Germany, an outbreak of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) occurred, which led to the destruction of bird populations in several federal states. According to the data of the World Organization for Animal Health, the virus is actively spreading in many regions, including FarmBirds on different territories. Other problems arise with the poultry, when migratory birds bring the virus to new regions.

"The first task is to prevent the further spread of dangerous infections, the protection of human life and the safety of economic assets," - said George Hettlinger, the head of the veterinary service in Baden-Württemberg. He calls for urgent measures to prevent the spread of the virus in closed poultry farms, in order to minimize contact with potentially dangerous diseases. New methods, including the use of vaccines in open areas or cells, should be the priority for the authorities.

According to information from the Institute of Friedrich Loeffler, in the current season, more than 200 thousand poultry of poultry farms were affected by the epizootic: chickens, ducks, geese and turkeys. However, it does not pose a direct threat to humans, but economic consequences for the poultry industry remain significant. In the coming months, the situation is complicated by the migration of wild birds, which leads to a surge in the incidence.
