The experts of the Center for Consumer Consultation in the Bavarian State Ministry of Germany warn about the necessity of caution when consuming preparations of ashwagandha, which are currently used by a large population, since to date there is insufficient reliable scientific evidence regarding both its use and its potential harm to health.
Many people who have taken ashwagandha preparations have complained about various health issues, such as nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and even skin rash. There are also reports of harm to the liver. Potential interactions with medications for high blood pressure, diabetes, and autoimmune diseases are possible.
Therefore, people taking such medications should avoid consuming ashwagandha preparations. Moreover, children, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and people with liver diseases are not recommended to consume ashwagandha preparations.
It is emphasized that ashwagandha preparations are available in the form of capsules, powders, and teas, and they are attributed with numerous health-promoting properties, such as increased energy, reduced stress, and enhanced concentration.
