Rising Oil Prices Increase Interest in Electric Cars in Germany

Rising fuel prices in Germany have led to a significant increase in demand for electric cars. According to data from Carouo and My Auto Dot Di platforms, the share of electric vehicle configurations on their sites has grown from 55% to 63%, while interest in gasoline and diesel cars has decreased. This indicates that consumers are actively seeking more cost-effective alternatives.

Rising Oil Prices Increase Interest in Electric Cars in Germany

Philip Zeiler von Amende, CEO of Carouo Germany, stated: "Currently, gasoline and diesel models together represent only about 23% of the configurations, a level lower than at the end of February. Our data shows that since February 28th, the share of electric vehicle-related configurations on the site has increased from 55% to up to 63% last weekend, with an average share of around 59% on weekdays, indicating that many consumers are reacting to rising fuel costs." The platform 'My Auto Dot Di' also reported a significant increase in interest in topics related to cheaper driving. Meanwhile, hybrid cars remain relatively stable at around 15%." According to 'My Auto Dot Di', there is no decline in interest in mobility, but there is hesitation when making a purchase decision. A spokesperson for the platform said that currently, offers and content related to alternative fuels, such as electricity and 'E20', as well as fuel-saving tips, are experiencing higher-than-usual view rates. While electric cars are gaining interest, traditional combustion engines are slightly declining, according to 'Carouo'. Rising gasoline prices due to the Iran war have led to an increase in interest among German buyers in electric vehicles. This was confirmed by the internet platforms Carouo and My Auto Dot Di, which specialize in cars, in response to a query from the German press agency (dpa). Philip Zeiler von Amende, CEO of Carouo Germany, said: "Rising oil prices directly reflect in interest in electric vehicles."
