According to a recent report by the German newspaper 'Bild', certain categories of car buyers in Germany can benefit from new financial incentives when registering new electric vehicles this year. The report states that the incentive will be applied retroactively to electric cars registered since the beginning of the year, and depending on income, family status, and other criteria, its value can range from €1,500 to €6,000. German Environment Minister Carsten Schneider told the newspaper: 'The resources are sufficient to finance around 800,000 vehicles over the next three to four years.' The minister, from the Social Democratic Party, sees the program as an incentive for the domestic automotive sector, which offers powerful electric cars. The ruling coalition, comprising the Christian Democratic Union and the Social Democratic Party, agreed last year to provide new purchase incentives worth billions of euros, which will particularly benefit low- and middle-income families, with higher amounts allocated to families with children. The maximum annual taxable income for a family eligible for the incentives was set at €80,000. The previous German government had abruptly ended a previous program to support the purchase of electric vehicles at the end of 2023 to close the budget deficit. According to 'Bild', it may take several months before buyers receive the new support, as a dedicated online platform must first be activated. It is expected that applications will be available starting from May. According to the latest official data released by the German Federal Motor Transport Authority, the German market for pure electric cars saw a significant increase in the number of newly licensed vehicles last November. The authority stated, as reported by the German press agency, that the number of new electric cars exceeded 55,740, an increase of 58.5% compared to the same month of 2024. At this rate, the share of this category rose to over 22% of all new passenger cars first licensed in Germany.
