BYD Surpasses Tesla in European EV Markets

Chinese company BYD has become the leader in electric vehicle sales in Germany and the United Kingdom, surpassing American Tesla. In Germany, BYD sales increased eightfold, and in the UK, the company sold 6,000 more vehicles than Tesla. These figures indicate growing competition in the global electric vehicle market.

Chinese company BYD surpassed American Tesla on the two largest electric vehicle markets in Europe last year. In Germany, the largest electric vehicle market in Europe, BYD sales jumped eightfold to reach 23,306 vehicles in 2025, while Tesla sales fell by 50% to 19,390 vehicles. BYD also overtook Tesla in the United Kingdom, ending the year with 51,422 vehicles compared to Tesla's 45,513. Globally, Tesla had already lost its title as the world's largest electric vehicle seller to BYD after reporting a 16% drop in deliveries in the fourth quarter. (Bloomberg)
