Zelensky Calls for European Army at Munich Security Conference

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the establishment of European Armed Forces to ensure Europe’s defense against Russia and to require the U.S. to consider Europe in geopolitical decisions. He emphasized that decisions about Europe must be made with Europe involved, not without its consent.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during his speech at the Munich Security Conference, called on Saturday for the creation of European Armed Forces to protect the continent from Russia and for the United States to take Europe into account when making geopolitical decisions.

Zelensky emphasized the importance of European leaders taking the necessary actions so that the future of the continent depends solely on Europeans. In this regard, he highlighted that during a recent phone call, U.S. President Donald Trump did not mention Europe's role in the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, underscoring the need for Europe to have its space in decisions that involve its destiny.

The Ukrainian president urged Europe to establish a joint Army so that the United States sees the continent not just as a market but also as an ally it can count on. He clarified that this initiative would not replace NATO but would equal the European contribution to that of the United States, a request Trump has been making since his first term.

In his speech, Zelensky also called for the unity of the European Union to address current challenges. He stressed that if decisions are not made in Brussels, they will be made in Moscow, and emphasized that the decision is in the hands of European leaders.

In conclusion, the Ukrainian president advocated for the creation of a European Army as a measure for the United States to seriously consider Europe in the geopolitical landscape and as a step towards greater autonomy in making fundamental decisions for the continent.
