Abandoned VW Golf Racks Up €201,480 in Parking Fees

A case involving an abandoned Volkswagen Golf at Berlin's airport became the headline of global news. During this time, the car accumulated a total of 201,480 euros in parking fees. Airport parking rates are usually high, and Berlin's Brandenburg Airport was no exception. Prices start rising after the first 10 minutes, intended for short-term parking. For half an hour, drivers have to pay 11 dollars, per hour - 23 dollars, and per day - 552 dollars.

The grey Volkswagen Golf did not find its owner, abandoned on the parking lot since January 28 of last year. It is unknown when airport representatives addressed the abandoned vehicle in their territory, but one thing is clear: no one reacted to this for a whole year. Neither the airport management, nor the parking management company, nor the local police accepted responsibility for this situation, shifting the problem to the rules of long-term parking.

The abandoned car was towed away on January 28, when it had already accumulated a total of 201,480 euros in parking fees. It is possible that these debts remain unpaid as the car's owner has not yet been identified. Available data indicates the likelihood that the vehicle was stolen and then left at the airport, since the license plates from Hannover do not match the car. A representative of the parking management company stated to the Munich Eye newspaper: 'The levying of parking fees in this case depends on whether the debtor can be identified and if he has the necessary financial means.'
