Germany to Hold Early Legislative Elections

Germany intends to organize early legislative elections on February 23. This decision comes amid significant political changes and seeks to stabilize government leadership.

Germany to Hold Early Legislative Elections

The German government announced plans to hold early parliamentary elections on February 23. This decision was made after the coalition parties failed to agree on the relative priority of candidates for the position of chancellor following the departure from office of Angela Merkel.

The parliamentary elections were supposed to take place in Germany earlier than scheduled due to recent events on the political arena. This was caused by a lack of consensus among the parties regarding the future successor to Angela Merkel.

One of the leading candidates for the chancellor position is considered to be the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Olaf Scholz. In connection with the possible early elections, politicians began an active pre-election campaign.
