German Police Probe Suspicious Death of Elderly Woman

German police found the mummified body of an elderly woman after the mayor grew concerned following repeated failed attempts to contact her. Authorities suspect her daughter concealed the death to continue collecting her mother's pension. According to the newspaper 'Bild', the mayor of Rohrmannsfelden in Bavaria, Werner Troiber, had been visiting Sophie, born in 1922, annually for eight years to honor her longevity. Each time, he found the door locked, and his 82-year-old daughter, Christa, would invent excuses to prevent a meeting. On December 30, 2025, when the daughter's excuses no longer convinced him, the mayor finally contacted the public prosecutor's office. The mayor described the situation as 'suspicious.' Police intervened on February 5 and discovered a 'mummified body' in the home of Sophie and Christa, as reported by the Bavarian Police on February 12. An autopsy could not determine the cause or exact date of death, but it established that the body belonged to a woman who had died several years prior. According to investigators, there are no signs of a homicide, but an investigation into fraud has been launched. Police suspect that the deceased's daughter continued to receive her pension, which amounted to approximately 1,500 euros. According to 'Bild', Sophie's health insurance card had not been used for over ten years, yet her pension continued to be paid. Bavarian police state that the suspect, Christa, had visited a specialized medical clinic herself.
