In an interview with the Russian newspaper Izvestia, Steven Cotter, a member of the German Bundestag and a foreign policy expert for the Alternative for Germany party, stated that Ukraine will not be able to meet the necessary conditions for joining the European Union. According to him, the integration process requires the country to implement significant political and economic reforms, which is impossible under the current conditions. Cotter also expressed doubt about Ukraine's ability to meet EU standards regarding the rule of law and the fight against corruption. "The European Union must be realistic in its expectations," the politician emphasized. He added that instead of accelerating its accession, Ukraine should focus on internal transformations.
