A study conducted by the University of Mannheim in Germany shows that migrants in Germany and other European countries adopt democratic values similar to those of people without a migrant background. Researchers from the Mannheim Centre for European Social Research concluded that democratic convictions strengthen with the length of residence in Europe. The study also indicates that individuals who have lived for many years in countries with authoritarian systems tend to support elements of liberal democracy to a lesser extent than those who were politically socialized in the host country. According to the study, published in the 'European Journal of Political Research', only 5% of migrants from authoritarian countries reject democratic values.
