The SPD has announced its minister list for the new German government led by CDU. Riem Al-Abli-Radovan, the youngest minister of Iraqi origin, becomes the new development minister.


New Minister from Iraqi Origin in German Government

The Social Democratic Party of Germany has presented a list of its ministers in the new government of Germany, which will be headed by the conservative Christian Democratic Union under the leadership of future Chancellor Friedrich Merz. According to the announcement in Berlin, the Minister for Development in the new government of Germany has been appointed Rim Abli-Radovan, who previously served as the deputy commissioner for migration and integration. Rim Abli-Radovan, a 35-year-old Iraqi refugee, became the youngest minister in the new government, according to German radio and the Deutsche Welle television.

Rim Abli-Radovan was born on May 1, 1990, in Moscow, graduated from the Free University of Berlin in 2013 with a bachelor's degree in political science, and then in 2017 enrolled in a master's program in international relations and business management at the Technical University of Kaiserslautern.

She joined the SPD (Social Democratic Party of Germany) in 2021, and was elected on September 26, 2021, as a deputy in the Bundestag, representing an eastern constituency considered one of the poorest and culturally diverse regions in Germany. On December 8, 2021, Rim Abli took the constitutional oath, becoming the minister for migration, refugees, and integration in the federal government under the leadership of Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

She became the first female Iraqi of Iraqi descent to hold this key position, playing an important role in the creation of a new integration law adopted by parliament on June 15, 2023, which connects language learning with labor and professional training. Rim Abli represents Germany at meetings of the European Union and the United Nations on migration issues and refugee rights, particularly regarding the issues of the Middle East and Africa, and speaks four languages: German (her native), Arabic, English, and Assyrian.
