Conservative politician Friedrich Merz took the oath of office as Federal Chancellor of Germany on Tuesday. Merz, who previously led the conservative party, replaced Angela Merkel in this position after her 16-year chancellorship.
"I am committed to related decisions regarding the future and open for dialogue," Merz stated after assuming office. The new Chancellor also referred to Germany, emphasizing the need for the country's unity and overcoming divisions.
Merz promised to reform the economy, boost the development of digital technologies, and strengthen Germany's position in Europe and the world. The new Chancellor is also intended to reverse a series of changes in immigration policy, ensuring the safety of the country and continuing digital transformation.
"We stand at the verge of a new era oriented towards the future," Merz added.
