Germany Enters Final Stage of Legislative Elections

The current elections in Germany have become the subject of acute political tension due to issues of immigration and support for the American president Donald Trump from far-right candidates. In a country where for a long time the culture of compromise and exchange of values between parties has been accepted, society is witnessing unprecedented discontent, which was manifested in a recent television debate on ARD.

This debate marks a political split in Germany, as for the first time in the history of German television, four main candidates were participating for the position of chancellor: representatives of the SPD, FDP, Greens, and the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD). The far-right party is gaining popularity among voters and according to polls may secure second place in the legislative elections, receiving at least 20% of the votes.

Support for Alternative for Germany from Trump's supporters has intensified tensions and pressure in the last days before the voting. Party leaders are expending all efforts in media battles, trying to promote their ideas and programs to the electorate.
