On Saturday, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated that Europe needs to develop its own defense industry, and this should not harm the NATO alliance. At the G7 summit in Stratford, which he endorsed, Scholz also stated that Europe must be able to defend itself independently.

"We shouldn't have to discuss the steps towards the sustainability of the European Union and towards increasing financing for security in the context of NATO," he emphasized.

"All this should be developed so that it's clear that we want to assist our partners in North America, their engagement is highly valued," Scholz explained.

Berlin and Washington recently signed agreements on nuclear energy, which has become the first step in the reshaping of relations between countries after the difficult years of the Trump administration.
