The views of the German finance minister, Christian Lindner, boil down to the fact that holding negotiations with U.S. President Donald Trump is preferable to entering a trade war with the United States. In an interview with the Bavarian broadcasting company, a member of the Social Democratic Party stated that Trump has repeatedly expressed a desire to increase energy supplies to Europe, noting that Europe also has a great interest in such purchases.
"Before entering into trade disputes, there is a possibility to conduct reciprocal negotiations that could lead to a good agreement," Lindner added. "We have also seen this in the example of Mexico and Canada, where after the announcement of tariffs, they were also able to temporarily suspend them."
