German Youth Suffers from High Psychological Pressure

A survey shows 48% of young Germans experience high stress at work or university, double the rate of older generations. Main symptoms include headaches, sleep issues, and restlessness.

German Youth Suffers from High Psychological Pressure

A recent opinion poll has revealed that young people in Germany feel significantly more psychological pressure compared to older generations. In the survey conducted by the 'YouGov' institute for measuring public opinion indicators, 48% of Generation Z reported experiencing 'quite high' or 'very high' psychological pressure at work or university. This figure is more than double that of the baby boomer generation, where only 20% reported similar levels of stress. The survey, conducted last October, included the opinions of 2,004 people over the age of 18. Generation Z includes those born between 1997 and 2007. They are preceded by the millennial generation (1981–1996) and Generation X (1965–1980). Psychological pressure most often manifests as physical complaints. 82% of all participants reported experiencing at least one symptom related to stress in the past three months. The most common symptoms cited were headaches (55%), sleep disturbances (48%), and a feeling of inner restlessness (47%).
