The world's number one lightweight according to the WBC, Panamanian Ricardo 'The Scientist' Núñez, concluded his sparring work yesterday in preparation for his world championship fight.
'The Scientist' Núñez will face Cuban Jaider Herrera for the interim WBC lightweight title on January 10 at the Rudolf Weber-Arena in the city of Oberhausen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
'Closing the sparring work. The harder and more difficult the path, the greater the thirst to conquer it,' posted 'The Scientist' Núñez on his social networks.
Núñez described the sparring sessions as productive, during which he had the opportunity to work with former world champion Jezreel 'The Invisible' Corrales and the distinguished boxer José 'The Magnificent' Núñez.
'More than 100 rounds of sparring. Now it's time to keep working to arrive in the best physical condition to achieve the goal of being crowned world champion,' expressed Núñez, whose trainers are Gustavo Cervantes (head coach) and Héctor Rangel.
The 32-year-old Isthmian boxer informed that he is already close to the target weight, so he just has to maintain his condition for the rest of December and travel to Germany in January to seek the world title.
The main event between Núñez and Herrera will be part of the card organized by Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions and will be headlined by the interim WBC heavyweight champion, German Agit Kabayel, who will defend his title against Polish Damian Knyba.
