A group of researchers from small universities, including Leipzig University in Germany, Oxford University in Great Britain, and Montpelier University in France, conducted a study and published it in the journal "Jama Open Network". They analyzed the data of two groups of adults. The first group included over 500 people of average age, while the second had about 660 people who underwent magnetic resonance imaging of the brain and psychological tests at the age of seventy.
The study showed that maintaining a healthy diet even up to middle age helps improve hippocampal function and the integrity of white matter in the brain with age. The hippocampus plays an important role in memory formation, while white matter aids in processes of learning, concentration, and problem-solving.
Researchers noted that increased fat content in animal food is associated with poor memory and brain function. According to them, the best time to maintain a healthy diet and eliminate fat in animal food to support cognitive abilities occurs between the ages of 48 and 70.
According to the results of the study, maintaining a normal weight and avoiding fat accumulation in animal food helps preserve brain health with age. Scientific research also revealed that an individual’s diet and fat intake in animal food may influence cognitive abilities and lead to a decline in cognitive functions.
