In the town of Hirschberg, located in the eastern part of Germany, the fourth round of the mayoral elections takes place due to the absence of candidates wishing to take this position. The most frequently mentioned candidates in the elections are Ronald Shreker and Benjamin Leyl. All residents of the town can nominate candidates by writing their names on the optional ballots. According to the words of the election director, Katrin Maisner, Shreker won the victory in the transitional round, but declined the position, as he could not cover his expenses with the low compensation. In the elections held on May 26, there was not a single candidate for the mayor's position in a town whose population is about 2,200 people and is located 70 kilometers south of the town of Inna in Thuringia. The previous mayor led the town for 41 years, spending most of the time in a dedicated and voluntary position. Subsequently, the prerequisites for conducting additional elections are present, as one of the candidates does not go for compromises due to the need to fulfill numerous tasks in a cramped time frame. "Nobody wants to engage in this voluntary work," noted Maisner, adding that the mayor's position requires significant efforts, despite the modest compensation.
