German law enforcement sources and investigators have announced that thieves have stolen up to 30 million euros ($35.2 million) after robbing approximately 3,200 safe deposit boxes in the vault of a savings bank in Gelsenkirchen, western Germany. According to sources, more than 2,500 clients were affected by the thefts, which could make it one of the largest bank heists in modern German history. The robbery was discovered early Monday after a fire alarm was triggered. On Tuesday, about 200 worried bank customers gathered at the branch to inquire about their valuables, with some attempting to storm the bank, prompting police to close the branch.
