Snow Disruptions Lead to Flight Cancellations in Frankfurt

Frankfurt Airport recommends that passengers arrive at the terminal building at least three hours before departure. The German Meteorological Service has issued a warning of severe weather disturbances due to the risk of ice formation in parts of the state of Hesse, where Frankfurt is located. This morning, Frankfurt Airport saw a large number of flight cancellations due to snowfall and ice formation warnings. A spokesperson for 'Fraport', the company operating the airport, told the German press agency (DPA) that out of 1,052 flights scheduled for the day, 98 were canceled, noting that the number could rise throughout the day. She added that the airport started the day under a 'strained winter operation', expecting significant disruptions, and explained that large winter maintenance teams are working on-site, while runways are being cleared. Thirty-four vehicles are being used to de-ice planes at their parking stands. The airport management urges passengers to check their flight status early before traveling and to allow extra time to reach the airport, taking weather conditions into account.
