The goalkeeper of Borussia Dortmund, Gregor Kobel, took responsibility for an error that led to a penalty in the dying moments of the match, allowing Italian Atalanta to eliminate the German team from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Atalanta staged a remarkable comeback with a 4-1 victory in Bergamo, securing a 4-3 aggregate win. Algerian defender Rami Bensebaini was directly involved in three of Atalanta's goals. His error led to an early goal from Gianluca Scamacca, and he then turned Davide Zappacosta's shot into his own net. Mario Pasalic added a third, but Karim Adeyemi pulled one back for Dortmund before Bensebaini conceded a controversial penalty in an attempt to help Kobel clear the ball. The Swiss goalkeeper told 'DAZN': "Ultimately, it was my mistake. I apologize to my teammates. I should have cleared the ball, no matter what". Dortmund's coach, Niko Kovač, showed great sportsmanship after the defeat, saying: "First of all, I congratulate Atalanta. They played as we did in the first leg, and unfortunately, we couldn't show our capabilities away from home". He continued: "It was a very difficult match in which we made many mistakes, and in the Champions League, you pay a high price for them".
