The German club Werder Bremen decided to honor its Brazilian star from the past, Diego Ribas, without inviting legends 'Bremen', 'Arsenal', and 'Real' Mesut Özil. The decision was prompted by events related to Özil's political comments in support of Turkey.
The club’s management prioritized a special ceremony in honor of Diego Ribas, acknowledging his significance to the team. However, Özil, despite his past in Werder Bremen, was not included in the list of invitees for the event, considering recent events.
"We want to express gratitude and recognition to Diego Ribas for his contribution to the club, as well as to highlight his important role in the history of the team," said the club representative.
